What is the Intranasal Stem Cell Therapy Procedure

The intranasal stem cell therapy procedure works by first gathering stem cells directly from the patient’s own blood through a normal blood draw, roughly six to twelve hour prior to an infusion. Infusions require that the patient lay back on the exam table with their head tilted perpendicular to the ground. A local anesthetic will be sprayed into the nose to promote patient comfort during the procedure. The stem cells are then dripped into the nasal passages with a dedicated device for this therapy. The patient will then lie for approximately 15 minutes while the cells fuse into the brain. After this, the treatment session ends and the patient is free to return to normal activities.

Intranasal Stem Cell Therapy for Traumatic Brain Injury

The intranasal approach to delivering concentrated stem cell quantities to the brain shows promise for treating various issues of neuroinflammation, repairing and preserving brain tissue and rebooting cognitive function following a traumatic brain injury  according to recent stem cell research by the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).

The use of adult stem cells for research and treatment escape the controversy that embryonic stem cells face.  This is because adult stem cells are derived from adult tissue samples rather than discarded human embryos. By law, these adult stem cells have to be infused into the patient within 24 hours after being extracted.

The Potential for Noninvasive Intranasal Stem Cell Therapy
